Hewing an Oak Log

A timber from the Hoff Barn at the Carroll County Farm Museum in Westminster was marked in the 1700s to identify the log's location within the building.

The Hoff Barn was built between 1785 and 1795 in New Windsor. It was moved and reassembled at the Carroll County Farm Museum in Westminster this year. Some of the hewn logs are fifty feet long.

A newly hewn replacement log, on the bottom, shows the contrast of the new wood compared to the older logs in the Hoff Barn.
